Which audio files can I select on my Philips player?

    Published on 2017-03-01

When you play a video from a disc, the available audio formats depend on the following factors:

    • The type of audio connection
    • The type of disc and the format in which the audio is stored
    • The selected digital audio format (only for S/PDIF and HDMI connections)
    • The type of accessory equipment that you have connected to reproduce the sound.

If you use a digital connection:

    • If the player is connected by HDMI:

      • A Blu-ray disc allows you to select 2-Channel, 5.1-Channel or bitstream
      • A DVD with Dolby Digital allows you to select stereo front or bitstream from disc
      • A DVD with DTS PCMallows you to select bitstream or bitstream from disc
    • If the player is connected by S//PDIF (Coaxial or optical)

      • A Blu-ray disc with PCMallows you to select 2-Channel, bitstream or bitstream from disc
      • A DVD with Dolby Digital allows you to select stereo front or bitstream from disc
      • A DVD with DTS PCM allows you to select bitstream or bitstream from disc

If you use an analog connection:

    • Stereo outputs (Red/White)

      • will produce an analogue stereo signal when you play a Blu-ray disc or a DVD with Dolby Digital
      • will produce no signal when you play a DVD with DTS only
    • 5.1-Channel analog

Note: This connection is unsuitable to connect speakers directly and will output an audio signal in the following formats:

    • 5.1-Channel when you play a Blu-ray disc
    • Stereo front when you play a DVD with Dolby Digital.
    • No signal when you play a DVD with DTS only
